TV Remote turns your phone into a remote control for televisions and streaming boxes that run Android TV™ or Google TV™. It speaks the remote-control protocol Google ships with those systems, so any device that runs one of them should work the same way. Developed and tested against an XGIMI projector.
It works over your Wi-Fi network, not infrared. It cannot control an ordinary television, a cable box, or an air conditioner. If your TV does not run Android TV or Google TV, this app will not help you.
The part a plastic remote is worst at is typing. Spelling out a film title with a D-pad takes twenty presses per word. Here you type on your phone's keyboard and the letters appear on the TV as you type them, including with your keyboard's own dictation.
WHAT IT DOES
• D-pad, back, home and media keys, with a swipe pad for fast navigation
• Type into the TV's search boxes from your phone keyboard, live
• Send a search straight to YouTube, which draws its own search box that ordinary text input cannot reach
• Volume control with the TV's real volume level, not guesswork
• One-tap shortcuts to the apps you actually use, saved in the order you like
• Reconnects by itself when the TV or the network drops out
• Light and dark themes
PRIVACY
No accounts. No advertising. No analytics. The app talks only to your own television on your own network — nothing is sent anywhere else, and the developer runs no servers to send it to. It asks for no access to your microphone, camera, contacts, location or files.
WHAT YOU NEED
A television running Android TV or Google TV, on the same Wi-Fi network as your phone. Pairing shows a six-digit code on the TV, once.
