Merkur Casino
Merkur Casino is a territory-claiming arcade game in the Qix tradition. You stand
on a strip of already-claimed ground at the edge of a dark grid. Push into
the open field and you leave a live trail behind you; find your way back to
any claimed edge and the loop seals shut, turning both the trail and the
field it encloses into your territory. Do it again and again until you have
claimed the sector's target share of the board.
The catch is the scanners. Magenta patrol units roam the unclaimed field,
bouncing off the ground you already own. They cannot cross into claimed
territory, but if one so much as brushes your live trail while you are mid
run, you lose a life and that unsealed line is wiped back to open field.
Cross your own trail and the same thing happens. Twenty sectors climb from a
half-claimed board with a single slow patroller to a shrinking, crowded grid
that punishes hesitation.
Progress is earned, not bought: clearing a sector cleanly and quickly awards
more stars and coins, but every sector is reachable through timing and route
planning alone. There are no boosts for sale that claim ground for you and
no shortcuts around a scanner in your path - only a steadier line and a
better read on where to cut next.
Claim the grid. Dodge the scanners.
