KanaGo — Hiragana & Katakana Learning App
Learn Japanese hiragana and katakana with KanaGo — a structured kana learning app covering all Japanese alphabet characters, native audio pronunciation, handwriting practice, and fully customizable quizzes.
LEARN HIRAGANA & KATAKANA
Browse all hiragana and katakana characters organized into three categories:
Gojūon — 46 core hiragana and 46 katakana base characters
Dakuon & Handakuon — voiced and semi-voiced kana variations (ga, za, da, ba, pa rows)
Yōon — compound characters such as きゃ (kya), しゅ (shu), ちょ (cho), びょ (byo)
Each character card displays the kana symbol alongside its romaji reading. Swipe between characters on the detail screen to navigate the full kana table at your own pace.
JAPANESE AUDIO PRONUNCIATION
Tap the audio button on any character to hear accurate Japanese pronunciation. Select between male voice and female voice in Settings to match your study preference. Listening to both voice types helps recognize kana sounds across different speakers.
HANDWRITING PRACTICE & STROKE ORDER
Every character detail screen includes a freehand drawing canvas for kana handwriting practice. A built-in stroke order guide reminds learners to write from top to bottom, left to right — following standard Japanese writing rules. Reset the canvas anytime to start over.
Enable the Handwriting Font option in Settings to display characters in a handwritten style rather than printed type. This helps learners recognize kana in real handwritten Japanese text.
CUSTOMIZABLE KANA QUIZ
Practice Setup lets you fully configure each quiz session before starting:
Types — select Gojūon, Dakuon & Handakuon, Yōon, or combine all three character groups
Subject — choose what to test: Katakana reading, Hiragana reading, Romaji recognition, or audio-based Sound identification
Number of Tests — set how many questions appear per session
Time Limit — set a per-question countdown timer to add challenge
This quiz customization allows beginners to start with basic hiragana gojūon and progressively advance to full kana including dakuon, handakuon, and yōon combinations.
DARK MODE & APPEARANCE
Switch between light and dark display modes for comfortable kana study in any lighting. Dark mode reduces eye strain during evening or low-light study sessions.
