Turn phonics practice into your child's favorite part of the day. WonderMax is a science-of-reading learn-to-read app for kids ages 4-7 — preschool through early elementary — teaching your child to read one playful lesson at a time, from first letter sounds all the way to reading full sentences with confidence.

Meet Max, a friendly Boston Terrier who leads your child through 12 reading adventures. Each "job" for Max builds a new reading skill: DJ Max claps out rhymes and syllables, Detective Max blends and segments sounds, Chef Max cooks up CVC word families, Engineer Max flashes sight words, Script Writer Max builds sentences, Captain Max grows reading fluency, and more — all the way through vocabulary and grammar.

WonderMax follows the same evidence-based progression speech-language pathologists and reading specialists use — phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, phonics and blending, sight words, fluency, vocabulary, and grammar — building skills in the order research shows children actually need them, not just alphabetically.

How it works
Your child speaks, writes, and taps their way through short, playful activities: sounding out words, tracing letters, blending phonemes, building sentences. WonderMax listens using on-device speech recognition, so your child's voice is processed entirely on their device and never sent anywhere — no cloud, no recordings kept.
