About this app

PortraitWorks™ makes it easy to create great custom portraits for your D&D and other fantasy characters.

This is not just some app using AI to create semi-random images. Every art element was hand-drawn by our team of professional artists, and you have total control over what goes into your portrait.

There are two ways to make a portrait:
1. Create from scratch in 6 easy steps: role, body, hair, style, gear, and background. Then, optionally Edit for more detailed control of any element of the portrait.
2. Choose from thousands of curated portraits in the Gallery. These portraits can be customized with the same Edit controls.

Make each portrait your own, with:
* All the classes from the Player’s Handbook, plus NPCs and more
* Millions of unique faces combining individual features and hairstyles, representing different races, ethnic groups, ages, and genders (including non-binary)
* Gear, weapons, spells, and familiars appropriate for a wide range of character classes and professions
* Nearly unlimited outfit possibilities from multiple layers of clothing, armor, helmets, hats, and jewelry
* A large collections of backgrounds from textural to scenic
* Color control of nearly every element

All features are free except for Export and Favorite. You can pay to unlock those per role, or for all roles at once.

Use your portraits on DnD character sheets, virtual tabletop tokens, mugs, tshirts, or anywhere else you can imagine. Publisher license for commercial use available separately.

Ratings and reviews

Impossible to use. This would be a thousand times easier to navigate if everything wasn't so randomized. I just want to pick a feature, but the way this app works makes it way too difficult. It should just have categories (face shape, skin tone, eye shape, eye color, etc.), where you can pick from ALL of the options to create your character. It would be so much easier to get what you want, as I have yet to ever complete a portrait close to what I wanted. I honestly regret backing the kickstarter

This app has pros & cons. 1 con is that not all options per category are able to be seen at once. You have to keep refreshing it to see more options but oftentimes it will show the same things multiple times, just in different colors. It is extremly frustrating and nonsensical. Make all options in a category visible at once! Other ideas: the ability to save colors so we can apply the exact shade to multiple parts of a portrait, more hairstyles, tattoos, makeup, scars, freckles, smiles, piercings

Portrait Works is an amazing app that works better than I would have ever expected! Quick notes: Pros: *Local saving is fast and seemless. *Adjusting portraits is quick and convenient, and can be saved for editing *Countless color variations to choose from. *Beautiful art renderings and ancestry variety Cons: *Sometimes can take a while to find just…the…right… option to make your portraits perfect. *Custom color sliders are a little cumbersome. This is now one of my go-to apps.
