About this app

BeeHiveMap is the grassland temperature sum (GTS) map for beekeepers in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The GTS provides scientifically sound information on when each nectar source is in bloom at your apiary – ensuring you add honey supers in time and never miss a peak nectar flow.

BeeHiveMap is the grassland temperature sum (GTS) map for beekeepers in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. WHAT BEEHIVEMAP DOES

• Live heatmap of the GTS (German-speaking region) for all of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland (10x10 km grid, updated daily)
• 7-day forecast with slider – see your nectar flow in advance
• Multi-year comparison: compare the current season with previous years back to 2000
• Mark up to 20 of your own apiaries
• Flowering alerts for willow, dandelion, cherry, rapeseed, black locust, linden, and much more

• Notifications via push notification, email, or directly in the app
• Home screen widget shows you the current GTS value of your home apiary
• Knowledge section with GTS basics, nectar-producing plants, and beekeeping FAQs
• AI assistant for your beekeeping questions
• Completely free, no ads, no in-app purchases

WHO IS IT FOR?

• Hobby beekeepers who want to better plan their nectar flows
• Professional beekeepers with multiple migratory apiaries
• Beekeeping associations and teachers
• For anyone interested in phenology and honey flow

WHAT IS THE GTS

The grassland temperature sum (GTS) is the average daily temperature accumulated since the beginning of the year, weighted by month (January 0.5; February 0.75; from March onwards 1.0). It is the most reliable indicator of the start of vegetation growth – and thus of every bee forage flow.

Example thresholds:
• approx. 60°C – goat willow
• approx. 130°C – dandelion/cherry
• approx. 200°C – rapeseed
• approx. 450°C – black locust
• approx. 550°C – linden

DATA SOURCES

• Germany: DWD Climate Data Center (official weather stations)
• Switzerland: MeteoSwiss
• Austria: GeoSphere Austria

Calculated server-side daily, based on hundreds of weather stations with IDW interpolation to a 10 km grid.
