About this app

Marine Navigation by XShipX is a practical marine navigation app for boats, coastal navigation and port environments.

The app is built around offline maps and Android device GPS, allowing navigation to continue without an internet connection once a map is installed.

OFFLINE MAPS

Marine Navigation uses the .ppmap map format.

Maps can be downloaded through ONLINE MAPS or imported directly to the device. Once installed, they are used locally and do not require an internet connection for normal navigation.

Marine Navigation uses the same .ppmap ecosystem as the Pilot Plug app.

This means the same .ppmap file can be used in both Marine Navigation and Pilot Plug. You do not need to create the map twice.

CREATE YOUR OWN MAPS

Users can create their own .ppmap maps for a port, marina, coastline, operating area or any chosen region using the Pilot Plug Reference Map Creator and map creation instructions available at pilotplug.app.

PUBLIC AIS

Public AIS targets are displayed automatically in supported areas when an AIS data source is available.

AIS is a separate live information layer over the offline map. Loss of internet or AIS data does not disable the offline map or GPS navigation functions.

Where AIS vessel dimensions are available, Marine Navigation can display vessels using true-scale hull geometry at close zoom levels.

PILOT PLUG COMPATIBILITY

Marine Navigation is designed for users who want straightforward navigation using the Android device GPS.

Users who require professional external data connections such as TCP/IP NMEA, external GPS/GNSS, private AIS receivers, heading, ROT or docking tools can use the Pilot Plug app while keeping the same .ppmap maps.

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE

Marine Navigation is intended for situational awareness, reference, training and general marine navigation assistance.

It is not approved as a primary navigation system and must not be used as the sole source for navigation, collision avoidance, pilotage, docking or other safety-critical decisions.

Always use official charts, certified navigation equipment, radar, visual lookout and appropriate seamanship procedures.
