iRC Auth is an advanced authentication application that enables privacy-preserving passwordless authentication, multi-factor authentication (MFA), and age assurance. It helps you create cryptographically verifiable digital credentials while keeping control of your personal information.

Unlike many authentication systems, iRC Auth does not require you to provide your name, email address, date of birth, password, or other personal information to sign up. Instead, you manage your authentication credentials directly through the app. Cryptographic key pairs are generated, encrypted, and stored locally on your device, giving you full control over your digital credentials. If provided by an authorised trusted credential issuing authority, a privacy-preserving Proof of Age Digital Credential (PoADC) is also stored securely on your device.

Using modern public-key cryptography, iRC Auth generates a unique cryptographic key pair for each supported website, application, or service, which can be used together with MFA to provide strong, privacy-preserving authentication. For websites and applications that do not support MFA but do support passwordless authentication through iRC Auth, you can instead use the app's "Confirm it's you" feature with a reusable cryptographic key pair to securely confirm ownership across multiple websites and applications. Authentication credentials digitally signed by you and a privacy-preserving PoADC digitally signed by an authorised trusted credential issuing authority can be shared using QR codes, allowing compatible systems to cryptographically verify their authenticity without requiring you to disclose unnecessary personal information.

Privacy by design

iRC Auth follows a privacy-by-design approach. The application does not collect, monitor, track, or transmit your personal information. The app is designed to support strong authentication and privacy-preserving age assurance while promoting data minimisation and reducing the risk of identity theft and impersonation.

NFC support

iRC Auth includes optional NFC functionality. NFC is not required to use the application, and all core features remain available without it.

If you choose to use NFC, compatible xString Tech NFC tags (Lockcard or Lockfob) are available separately. Each compatibility-tested tag includes a verified 12-digit setup code for use with the application.
