• Free Play — set up and explore any position freely

Hints, take-back, next and previous move, and instant reset are one tap away. The board is
flipped automatically when you study a defense, so you always see it from your own side.
The interactive board works with no internet connection.

Beginners can start with the Italian Game and basic checkmate patterns. Club players can drill
a Sicilian repertoire, learn the traps hiding in their own openings, or test their memory in
Guess the Move. Nothing is locked behind a paywall, there is no sign-up, and no lesson expires.

Most amateur games are decided in the first fifteen moves. Understanding the ideas behind a
chess opening — which squares matter, where each piece belongs, which traps to avoid — wins
more games than memorising long variations. Every lesson here focuses on those ideas.

Study a chess opening, practise it on the board, quiz yourself with no hints, then play it
against the computer. That is the whole loop.

This app was already great, but the new update completely transformed the experience! The Guess the Move quiz mode is fantastic — it lets you test your opening knowledge hands-on. Full dark mode now works across every screen, which is so much easier on the eyes. The search feature helps you find any opening instantly, and favouriting lets you build your own repertoire with ease. Progress tracking is a brilliant touch too — you can see at a glance which openings you've already learned.

1 problem, you cannot effectively rewind or fast forward. no 10 second skip. time is not shown at all when moving the slider!!!!! why!?!?!?!? it's pure guess work!!! that's just stupid! if your trying to find a specific part based on the board layout or time, good luck! Hunt and Peck... hope for the best. what a waste of time trying to do it. and watching minutes over again because the time is not shown when trying to FF or ReWind is not exciting nor is it learning, its just frustra

I am becoming more and more involved with Chess playing. The game has a grip on me and I know I strive to excel now that the game has become a clear objective of mine at a later age, 57. The great players of their time compels me to take a deeper look at their strategy by examining their lives as well.
