About this app

I created this app for my annual fishing trip. Four days of intense fishing. Multiple trips a day. Fishing tales each night. Unfortunately, first trip of the first day I can't remember my bass count past two. I spend more effort trying to remember my fish count than fishing. Forgetful Angler Counter was designed so I could walk off the water and report my numbers to the other boat without stressing the entire trip.

Short-term memory isn't my only problem. A year later, at the start of this year's expedition and last year is all a blur. Even if I use this app once per year to track fish counts for 4 days, I get a memory aid for discussing each year.

Why $1.99? Because fishing shouldn't involve ads, data mining, or both. I built this app to remember my fish counts — not to hand my secret fishing holes and favorite lures over to an AI data training center. Your data stays on your device (or where ever you back up your device). No accounts. No tracking. No algorithms deciding you need a targeted ad for crankbaits because you logged a good day on smallmouth. Two bucks and you own it.

Nothing wrong with just simple counting of fish, that is essentially what I wanted and what can be done with very little effort. If you want to track a bit more information, well I added that, too.

Each expedition can span multiple days with multiple trips per day. Capture weather conditions — air temperature, water temperature, wind, cloud cover, and rain — either manually or with a single tap that pulls current conditions from the National Weather Service using a city/state or a ZIP code. Log mid-trip weather changes, lure changes or some random thought.

Want to remember more than numbers? Tap any catch to add details like length, weight, lure used, and a photo. A built-in camera button sits on every fishing screen so your best catch is always just a few taps from being documented. At the end of each trip and day, jot down notes in the running journal — the details that make a good fish story a year from now.

The camera icon on the fish counter screen just opens your phone's camera as a short cut. The camera icon in the fish details screen logs the photo in Forgetful Angler Counter.

Geek out even more in the statistics tab, the favorite fish tab or the Settings defining fish species, lures, colors...

All data is stored locally on your device. No account required. No data collected. This does mean that switching phones risks losing your data. Note: the export data feature does not export images, just all the other settings and data.
