What’s new

New: single or double? nono is "ninth", nonno is "grandfather" — hold the consonant for a beat and the word changes. Ten pairs on the n, r, l, t and p pages.
• h and i are switches, not sounds: che /ke/ keeps c hard, ciao /tʃao/ makes it soft
• z has two values (zebra /dz/, pizza /ts/); s is voiced between vowels (sole, casa)

• Accents only on the last syllable: é is closed, è is open
