HOW DOES IT WORK?

It’s simple!

Step 1: Download the app for free and complete your profile.

Step 2: Fill in the dates of your stay in the European Union.

Step 3: When shopping, ask the merchant for a “VAT invoice made out to Zapptax”. Photograph your invoices and upload them to the app or forward them by email to [e-mail].

Step 4: At the end of your stay, click to request the automatic generation of your tax-free forms. You will get one or more tax refund forms showing all of your purchases.

Step 5: Validate your tax refund forms electronically at customs before leaving the EU by scanning the forms barcode at a self-service kiosk (PABLO device in France) or by presenting your passport to a customs agent in Belgium.

And that’s all! Zapptax will process your refund and pay you using the method of your choice.

Ratings and reviews

The app gives no instructions on the process they use, which is not the same as others. They also don't train cashiers on anything. The cashier hands you a receipt in a pamphlet and tells you nothing. But if you don't read the pamphlet completely you are screwed. Even if you do read it, their process requires you to have access to a printer... while on vacation. You have to print the forms, instead of the cashier doing it, so that they can make more money.

The shop didn't give me the form I needed, and so it wasn't validated, but the team reached out to ask what happened and fixed it for me -- much better support and experience than I had expected! thank you Chantal and Lisa.

Getting a tax refund has never been made easier! The instructions are always very well detailed and the feedback if something needs to be adjusted is very specific. They even go above and beyond to provide solutions to large stores not always providing an invoice at the register. They inform you of how you can get your invoice on their website on a few clicks! The team is always responsive and friendly. Used since 2021, my 7th trip and it always gets better. Love it !!
