Barriers is a task planner and a money planner in one app, made for ADHD minds, busy households, and anyone whose week does not fit in their head.
One place for the things you have to do and the money they cost. Put in "pay the gas bill, £86.40, Friday" as a task, and when you tick it off Barriers offers to book that £86.40 into the right month — the month of the bill, not the day you got round to it.
TASKS AND REMINDERS — FREE, AND UNLIMITED
A todo list that does not nag. Deadlines with a countdown; a morning page that says what is overdue and what is due today; a daily reminder that stays quiet on a clear day. Routines repeat themselves daily, weekly, monthly or yearly. A Backburner holds what matters but is not urgent, and "At some point" holds what has no date at all. Mark the five-minute jobs and one comes back to you a few times a day. An evening edition moves whatever is left to tomorrow in a tap, and a notification lets you complete a task or push it to tomorrow without opening the app. There is a home screen widget with tick circles that work while the app is shut.
CHORES, SHARED BETWEEN ADULTS
A household chore app for grown-ups: no stickers, no points, no sticker chart. A recurring task can rotate around the house on a rota, so "whose turn is it" has an answer. Couples, flatmates and families all use the same shared list, with a scope lens for personal and shared work.
THE MONEY SIDE — AN EXPENSE TRACKER THAT MATCHES REAL LIFE
A statement for each month: what came in, what went out, what is left. A bill sits in the months it is actually paid — a quarterly bill lands in those three months rather than being smoothed into twelve — so a month's total is what really left the account. Copy a line forward and it strides four years ahead. 23 currencies, folded into your own at reference rates. A year-end figure worked out from your own numbers, and a switch that hides every number while you read in public. The Annual is a one-page year-end broadsheet with its own headline, saved out as an image.
RECEIPTS, FILED
Photograph a receipt, type the shop, total, date and category, and file it to the month it belongs to. An unfiled banner keeps count of the ones still waiting, and one search box runs across tasks, expenses and receipts together.
FAMILY SHARING
Up to six people. Your first family is free, whether you start it or join someone else's. Family sharing lets you be in up to three. Give a task to one person and they accept it, or decline and say why. Put one to everybody at once. Nudge, at most once per task every twelve hours. Hand a task back. A family ledger shows who is carrying what, and receipts can be shared with the household too.
WHAT IT COSTS
Tasks are free, for ever, with no limit on how many.
Finance and Receipts are free for fourteen days on Android, and after that one payment. A single purchase, not a subscription.
Family sharing is a separate subscription, monthly or yearly, with the first two weeks free if you are new to it. Joining someone else's family gives you the family desk — it does not unlock Finance and Receipts, which stay on your own plan.
PRIVATE, AND OFFLINE-FIRST
No ads, ever. No tracking. No third-party analytics. Usage statistics are off until you turn them on, and deleted when you turn them off. The app works offline; your tasks, months and receipts are held on your device and backed up through Android's own backup to your Google account. What you hand to a family goes to that family. No account is needed for anything except family sharing.
EVERYWHERE ELSE
There are also apps for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch, in 19 languages.
Barriers does not give financial, tax or investment advice. It is your own numbers, added up the way you would add them up yourself.
