About this app

Occupational Noise Screening & Acoustic Analysis.

Decibel Core is a comprehensive Noise Screening Tool. Designed for safety officers, industrial hygienists, and audio engineers, Decibel Core combines a real-time SPL meter with a NIOSH/OSHA compliant noise dosimeter calculator.

Generate PDF reports, track Time-Weighted Average (TWA), and analyze frequency spectrums for initial noise assessments.

NOISE DOSIMETRY SCREENING
Turn your phone into a safety awareness tool. Monitor noise risk and screen workplace noise levels.
• NIOSH & OSHA Standards: Calculates dose based on NIOSH (85dB/3dB exchange) and OSHA (90dB/5dB exchange) formulas.
• TWA & Dose %: View real-time noise dose percentages and projected 8-hour exposure.
• Risk Thresholds: Visual alerts for Safe (<85dB), Caution (85-94dB), and Danger (>=105dB) zones.

REPORTING & LOGGING
Ideal for preliminary workplace assessments and environmental monitoring.
• PDF Export: Generate detailed TWA reports with graphs and session statistics.
• Data Logging: Record measurements with timestamps and export to CSV.
• Leq Tracking: Monitor Equivalent Continuous Level (Leq) for fluctuating noise sources.

REAL-TIME FFT ANALYSIS
Identify frequency peaks in noise sources.
• Frequency Analysis: 2048-point FFT with Hamming window.
• Weighting Filters: Support for A-Weighting, C-Weighting, and Z-Weighting.

MICROPHONE CALIBRATION
Smartphone microphones vary by manufacturer. Decibel Core includes a Multi-Point Calibration engine to help align your device with reference equipment.
• Linear Regression: Adjusts slope and offset for better alignment.
• Adaptive Presets: Quick settings for common microphone profiles.

IMPORTANT: HARDWARE LIMITATIONS
Please Read Before Downloading:
Decibel Core is a software tool, but it is limited by the physical hardware of your smartphone's microphone.

1. Hardware Clipping: Most smartphone microphones physically stop measuring (clip) above 90dB - 105dB. This is a hardware limit, not a software error. This app cannot measure sounds louder than your device's hardware allows.
2. Voice Optimization: Phone microphones are tuned for human voice frequencies. They may not be accurate for very low bass or very high frequency industrial noise.
3. Screening Use Only: This app is intended for screening (identifying potential issues) and educational use.

TECHNICAL SPECS
• Calculations: Based on IEC 61672-1 weighting and NIOSH/OSHA dose formulas.
• Audio Engine: 44.1 kHz 16-bit PCM input.

DISCLAIMER
This application is for informational and screening purposes only.
• Not a Class 1 Device: This software is NOT a substitute for a calibrated ANSI/IEC Class 1 Sound Level Meter for official regulatory, legal, or occupational safety compliance.
• Accuracy: Without external calibration, smartphone readings may vary significantly from professional equipment.
• Liability: The developer assumes no responsibility for decisions made or hearing damage sustained based on this data. Always verify critical measurements with certified equipment.
