About this app

Audioguide on your smartphone. We invite you for a walk around the Philharmonic, during which we learn about the rich history of this institution.

The beginnings of the Philharmonic date back to 1956 - on May 29, the inaugural concert of the Zielona Góra Symphony Orchestra conducted by Mieczysław Tomaszewicz took place, during which works by Mozart, Schubert and Moniuszko were performed. In 1961, the orchestra was nationalized and the ensemble gained its own headquarters. For many years it was managed by Zygmunt Hassa. In February 1974 (under the direction of Kazimierz Morski) the orchestra gained the status of a philharmonic.

In the years 1980–86, it was led by Szymon Kawalla, who often traveled with the ensemble outside its headquarters, in various cities in Poland, as well as abroad. In September 1982, the philharmonic was named after Tadeusz Baird, an outstanding contemporary Polish composer, co-creator of the famous Warsaw Autumn festival. From September 1, 1986 to August 31, 2021, the general and artistic director of the Philharmonic was Czesław Grabowski - conductor and composer. The period of his management is a time of artistic undertakings combining high repertoire and performance ambitions with openness to the expectations of various circles of listeners. As a result, to this day, due to the huge interest of music lovers, there is a lack of seats at most concerts. From September 1, 2021, the director of the Zielona Góra Philharmonic is Rafał Kłoczko, at the time of taking up the position, the youngest director of an artistic institution in Poland.

The orchestra's repertoire includes oratorio and symphonic works, as well as popular compositions. Many works by contemporary Polish composers, including those from Zielona Góra, had their premieres here. The posters host the names of the most outstanding Polish and foreign soloists and conductors.
