About this app

Techiaith TTS gives your Android device natural Welsh voices.

It installs as a text-to-speech engine, so every app that speaks can use it: TalkBack, Select to Speak, ebook and news readers, navigation, messaging. Once you have chosen it as your preferred engine, it reads menus, messages, web pages, books and notifications in every app.

THREE VOICES, TWO LANGUAGES
Choose a southern female voice, a northern female voice or a northern male voice. Each voice speaks both Welsh and English and decides sentence by sentence which language it is reading, so a Welsh message with an English name in it, or an English page with Welsh place names, sounds right without switching voices. Numbers, times, dates, prices and common abbreviations are read out in full in the language of the sentence.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
All speech is produced on your device. The app has no internet access, collects no data and sends nothing anywhere. Text from your screen reader or reading app is held in memory only for as long as it takes to speak it.

FAST AND OFFLINE
The neural voice model runs locally, so it responds immediately and works with no connection, on the train, in the hills or abroad.

SETTING UP
1. Open Techiaith TTS, choose your voice and tap "Set as default voice".
2. Go to Settings > Accessibility (or General management) > Text-to-speech output and choose Techiaith TTS as the preferred engine.
3. TalkBack, Select to Speak and reading apps use it from their next start.

FREE AND OPEN
Techiaith TTS is free. It is developed by the Language Technologies Unit at Bangor University and funded by the Welsh Government. The voices were recorded by professional Welsh speakers, and the model and the text-processing code are published under open licences for developers to build on.

Requires Android 7 or later.

Mae'n gosod ei hun fel peiriant testun-i-leferydd, felly gall pob ap sy'n siarad ei ddefnyddio: TalkBack, Select to Speak, apiau darllen e-lyfrau a newyddion, llywio, negeseuon. Ar ôl ichi ei ddewis fel eich peiriant dewisol, mae'n darllen dewislenni, negeseuon, tudalennau gwe, llyfrau a hysbysiadau ym mhob ap.

TRI LLAIS, DWY IAITH
Dewiswch lais benyw o'r de, llais benyw o'r gogledd neu lais gwryw o'r gogledd. Mae pob llais yn siarad Cymraeg a Saesneg ac yn penderfynu frawddeg wrth frawddeg pa iaith y mae'n ei darllen, felly mae neges Gymraeg ag enw Saesneg ynddi, neu dudalen Saesneg ag enwau lleoedd Cymraeg, yn swnio'n iawn heb newid llais. Darllenir rhifau, amserau, dyddiadau, prisiau a thalfyriadau cyffredin yn llawn yn iaith y frawddeg.

Cynhyrchir yr holl leferydd ar eich dyfais. Nid oes gan yr ap unrhyw fynediad i'r rhyngrwyd, nid yw'n casglu data ac nid yw'n anfon dim i unrhyw le. Cedwir testun o'ch darllenydd sgrin neu ap darllen yn y cof am gyhyd ag y mae'n ei gymryd i'w lefaru yn unig.

CYFLYM AC ALL-LEIN
Mae'r model llais niwral yn rhedeg yn lleol, felly mae'n ymateb ar unwaith ac yn gweithio heb gysylltiad, ar y trên, yn y mynyddoedd neu dramor.

GOSOD
1. Agorwch Techiaith TTS, dewiswch eich llais a thapiwch "Gosod fel y llais diofyn".
2. Ewch i Gosodiadau > Hygyrchedd (neu Rheolaeth gyffredinol) > Allbwn testun-i-leferydd a dewiswch Techiaith TTS fel y peiriant dewisol.
3. Bydd TalkBack, Select to Speak ac apiau darllen yn ei ddefnyddio o'u cychwyn nesaf.
