About this app

Gordon’s Sun Clock – Natural Time

A single-hand clock with a daily changing dial – oriented to the Sun, Moon, planets, and stars

–– Why a sun clock?

I was dissatisfied with legal time and daylight saving time, and with the fact that 12 o’clock is usually not actual noon. My solution is an organic dial that shows true local time. No railway time, no time changes, simply solar time, but readable like a normal clock.

–– What do you see?

The horizon divides the screen. Above it: the sky with the Sun, Moon, planets, and the ten brightest stars. The Sun’s path forms the dial. Day length, the beginning of night, and seasonal changes are visible at a glance.

–– What is it for?

• Reconnecting with natural rhythms
• Children intuitively understand the movement of celestial bodies
• Wall clock: observe the daily change of time
• Astronomy: moon phases, planets, eclipses

–– Features

• Precise calculations (Skyfield)
• Location-based, works worldwide
• Usable offline
• Time travel: explore past and future, up to the sky at your birth
• Meteor showers: the five major streams with search area and radiant
• Agnihotra times, weather view, temporal hours
• Free, ad-free, privacy-friendly

–– Seven years of experience

I have lived with this clock for seven years. It has taught me to reconnect with natural rhythms: the angle of sunlight, the shortness of winter days, the phases of the Moon, the starry sky. This clock is my gift to the world.

• Also known as: astronomical clock, horologium, orloj, astrolabe, star clock, celestial clock, solar clock, single-hand clock
