About this app

The app "Discover Osnabrück" takes you in two independent tours to a total of 23 stations in the city center. It conveys the history of the city and its stories to you - in a completely new, exciting and particularly entertaining way. Through this app, the history of Osnabrück comes alive!

Two virtual guides, "Magda, the market woman" and "Friedrich, the messenger of peace", introduce you to the most important sights of the city in the "Highlights Tour". They show you how the small trading center at the bishop's seat became an important Hanseatic city and finally, with the peace negotiations to end the 30-year war, the center of European diplomacy. In the "Peace Tour" they take you to places of peace in the city: starting with the Town Hall of the Peace of Westphalia and the Erich Maria Remarque Peace Center, via the memorial of the Old Synagogue to other stations in the heart of the city.

The app uses augmented reality* in a variety of ways: In addition to the appearances of the virtual guides, it offers you selfie stations to share in social media and quizzes for interaction. You can explore some places in the city with 360-degree shots, others with impressive historical photographs. Information transfer, smartly presented: You can have texts read to you.

The features of the app at a glance:
● Virtual guides lead through the city
● Old and new stories about the sights
● Historical image collections
● Panoramic and aerial photography
● Selfie stations and quiz offers

The app is free and contains no advertising. Their development was funded by the European Union. The following were involved: “European Fund for Regional Development”, “Europe for Lower Saxony, ERDF funding for the Lower Saxony regions” and the “Osnabrück. Downtown. Experience."

*In order to use the augmented reality function, the installation of Google Play Services for AR is required.
