About this game

The Election Compass for the Saxony-Anhalt state election will be available on August 6th around noon. The Election Compass for the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania state election and the Election Compass for the Berlin House of Representatives election will go online on August 24th, 2026, around noon.

An internet connection is required to use the app and play the Election Compass.

Election Compass

The Election Compass is a question-and-answer tool that shows which party participating in an election is closest to your own political position. You can answer 38 political statements with "agree," "disagree," "neutral," or "skip this statement." All parties participating in the election are invited to participate in the Election Compass. This way, you can compare your own answers with those of the parties. The Election Compass (Wahl-O-Mat) is not an election recommendation, but rather an informational tool about elections and politics.

Your Election Compass Result

The Election Compass calculates your degree of personal agreement with the selected parties. Clicking on the party names provides brief descriptions of all parties. Under "More information about the party," you can access a short academic profile of each party.

Examine your result:

- Under "Tuning," you can adjust your positions and weightings and directly observe how your changes affect your result.

- In the "Party Comparison," you can see at a glance which statements selected parties agree or disagree on.

- Under "Justifications for the Statements," the positions and justifications of all parties are listed, sorted by statement. The parties are ordered and displayed according to their responses (agree, neutral, disagree).

- Under "Positions," you will find all of a party's positions and justifications for all 38 statements at a glance. Simply select your preferred party from all those eligible to run in the election.

Accessibility
The Election Compass (Wahl-O-Mat) has been designed to be accessible. It also offers the following features, which you can access via the corresponding icons in the bottom right corner:

- Read-aloud function: Once activated, you can listen to the text for the selected page. You can use the controls to pause and resume the read-aloud, mute it, or skip to the previous or next text.

- Sign language: Clicking this icon opens a video that provides information about the respective page in German Sign Language. On the homepage, you will find general information about the Election Compass. The "Theses" section presents the respective thesis, and after the theses, you will find an explanation of the features available on the page.

- Plain language: Here you will find general information about the Election Compass and how it works, written in plain language.

Ratings and reviews

You should allow users answers to be saved in one's device. The app crashed twice with me as I analyzed my answers and had to restart from scratch until I gave up on the app (uninstalling today).

Cannot save Info-PDF without storage right, but app doesn't ask for it. Answers should bei stored, so you don't have to repeat the questionnaire every time you look something up elsewhere.

Please allow saving progress during the process of filling out info. It happens too often that I need to input everything again.
