The flyDMFV app brings model flying to your smartphone. From the legally compliant documentation of model flights, a digital flight log to the provision of digital evidence such as proof of knowledge or the e-ID, this app from the German Model Flying Association (DMFV) makes an important contribution to continued safe model flying. It can also make the flight radius of a model aircraft digitally visible to other air traffic participants for the first time based on its location.
The app was developed by Droniq on behalf of the German Model Aviation Association (DMFV). The flyDMFV app is a real relief for all model pilots. It helps you to move in the airspace in accordance with the rules. There are numerous advantages, especially for model flying clubs: This app no longer requires any infrastructure at model flying sites to store a flight log. This can all be done via the app. She also informs the pilot about the local rules, for example the individual flight regulations of the model flying club. It also automatically indicates how many pilots a flight director needs to be deployed. It also makes it easy for guest pilots to register with the model flying club. Thanks to the high level of automation, one click is enough to register the flight without having to enter any data beforehand. The flight log data is available to the club at any time on their mobile phone. The data is only stored in an audit-proof manner within the legally prescribed framework and is then automatically deleted. The app also uses the smartphone's GPS to determine the model aircraft pilot's position. If the model airplane pilot ends his model flight and moves away from the area, the app automatically logs him out.
The app shows model pilots all model flying sites registered with the DMFV. Each of them has a club name and a contact person. The flyDMFV app also provides information about local weather conditions and restrictions for model flying. For legal reasons, model airplane pilots must carry a variety of documents with them, such as proof of knowledge. What previously happened in printed form or as a plastic card is now done digitally. Documents such as proof of knowledge, e-ID or device inspection certificate can be easily uploaded to the flyDMFV app.
Another innovation is the digital visualization of active model flying sites. These are displayed via an app in the Droniq traffic management system (UTM). The same applies to flights that take place outside of a site. The pilot uses the app to transmit the planned altitude and distance at which he wants to fly. In the live air situation, users can see not only manned and unmanned air traffic but also the locations where model flying takes place.
So that flights can take place safely outside of model aircraft areas, the app has a connection to the digital platform for unmanned aviation (dipul) of the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV). This informs the model pilots in which areas the model flight can take place.
