The WarnWetter App offers the following functions (in the free version):
• Current warning situation for Germany down to municipal level
• Favorites function for on-site (GPS required) and selected locations

For a one-time fee (in-app purchase) the WarnWetter App can be expanded to a full version including the following functions:
• Map function to display the current weather situation and a forecast up to 7 days in advance.
• Precipitation differentiated into rain, snow, sleet and hail (radar, model forecasts).
• Clouds (satellite data, model forecasts).
• Lightning (lightning location, forecasts).
• Wind (model forecasts).
• Temperatures (model forecasts).
• Seamless time control from past to future
• Combination of weather elements (precipitation, clouds, temperature, wind...) possible

Note: The in-app purchase can be used on multiple devices with the same account. The range of functions differs in older versions of the WarnWetter App.

Ratings and reviews

Ever since the app has been updated to support “use precise location” it will poll the location every 3–4 minutes (even in the background) causing GPS to run 24/7 drowning 2–3 times more battery than even SoT. I am not sure who needs to hear this but a weather forecast app showing the same weather and forecast for hundreds of square kilometers really doesn't need to know wherever I am currently in my kitchen or the backyard.

Unfortunately, the weather forecasts are relatively useless. Storm and rain predicted? Then it'll probably be nice. Cloudless skies according to the app? Better take an umbrella. Sometimes the forecast symbols even change during the day, but in my experience, the probability of it being correct is around 10%, and you're not far off assuming the opposite. The warning messages are similarly unreliable. 2026: Still sub-suboptimal.

App was accurate for years. Now since about a month its not accurate at all. Annoying especially when living only 10km from the actual DWD!
