About this app

CANIS playfully gets your Latin vocabulary flowing – led by Rufus, the dog with the laurel wreath. Instead of rote memorization, you'll learn vocabulary and grammar in small, motivating bites and see your progress grow every day.

WHAT TO EXPECT

🐾 The Via Latina – 104 chapters as stations along a Roman road. You unlock each chapter by mastering its exercises – and every 8th chapter is a boss battle without any help.

📚 Over 2,500 vocabulary words – the complete vocabulary matching common Latin textbooks, with long vowels (macra) and example sentences, neatly organized into chapters 1–104.

✍️ Real grammar training – not just vocabulary drills: CANIS trains declension (1st–5th declensions), conjugation across all tenses (present to future perfect, subjunctive, passive, imperative), adjectives (innocent, number, and comparative/superlative forms), and sentence structure (sentence elements, accusative and infinitive construction, ablative absolute, and much more).

📘 Grammar step by step – new topics are introduced chapter by chapter, with easy-to-understand information units and plenty of examples. You only practice what you've already learned.

📖 Reading – starting in chapter 8, you'll read short, coherent texts, including classics like "The Wolf and the Lamb" (after Phaedrus), Mucius Scaevola, and Orpheus and Eurydice – sentence by sentence with translations and comprehension questions.

🔊 Listen to pronunciation – Latin words are read aloud to help you memorize their sound and meaning.
