About this app

German version of the app. The French version is here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.haupt.florahelvetica.pro.fr

The app contains images and species portraits of more than 3,300 plants growing in Switzerland and allows the plants to be identified using three different identification methods: (1) dichotomous key, (2) multi-criteria key, (3) automatic image recognition.

The plant portraits are equipped with pictures, distribution maps and texts. Own observations with the location can be saved in a field book and reported to Info Flora. In addition, favorites can be managed and your own observations can be enhanced with photos and notes.

The texts in the species portraits were written by Gerhart Wagner and Andreas Gygax. The vast majority of the color photos are from Konrad Lauber.

The species list allows browsing and searching in the species, optionally with the German or Latin resp. French or Latin species names, whereby the list can be displayed alphabetically or by book number. With the filter, the species list can be narrowed down according to desired characteristics such as flowering time, geographical distribution or on the basis of families and genera.

The dichotomous key is constructed according to the botanically common dichotomous scheme: between each of the two listed characteristics, the one that applies to the plant to be identified must be selected until a species name appears. If you are unsure about a decision, you can attach bookmarks to easily find your way back to the crucial question. The list of the remaining species can be viewed at any time.

here the list of species is reduced by the selection and combination of up to 350 characteristics. The more precisely the species can be described with characteristics, the more precise the determination. Colored dots indicate how well a characteristic is suitable for narrowing down the species.

The algorithm currently recognizes around 2000 species automatically by image. The image recognition is possible thanks to the collaboration with Flora Incognita. For this reason, we cannot guarantee this function in the long term.

In the field book, app users can add their own photos and notes to the app. Observations are saved with the exact coordinates (GPS) and can be exported via email. The finds can be sent to Info Flora using the registration form.

Bilingual mode (in-app purchase)
The app can be used in two languages (German / French) thanks to the additional language package.

The additional content with over 2300 drawings helps to identify the vascular plants in Switzerland during the long, bloomless months.

Unlocks species from the excursion guide, further filter options in the species list and field book functions. In addition, a route through the dichotomous key can be displayed for approx. 3800 species.

Always back up your favorites and field book entries via synchronization before you run updates!

Flora Helvetica Mini - the free trial version shows all functions of the Pro version, but only contains selected species. It allows the app functions to be tested quickly and gives a good overview of the full version.
