About this app

hessenWARN is the official warning app of the state of Hesse.
The system offers hazard and disaster warnings from various Hessian state and federal agencies from a single source. hessenWARN offers the possibility to use different functionalities, warnings and information bundled in a single application.

The application is designed so that it can be personalized according to your own wishes. Basically, only the functionalities and information are provided, which were previously selected and activated by you. Even after compiling the desired functions, you remain flexible: your selection can be changed by you at any time.

There is an interface to the most popular population warning systems, such as KATWARN or the Federal Modular Alert System (MoWaS). This interface ensures that in case of danger and disaster the official information of the authorities in Germany and Austria is available. In HessenWARN, for example, location-based warnings about dangers, such as major fires or extreme weather, are sent via push message. The app offers the possibility to always be informed according to your own current location and in addition to seven other, freely selectable places.

The location function can be switched on or off by the user. By using energy-efficient localization via base stations and Wi-Fi access points (and not via GPS), the battery is only slightly charged.

The app has the following features:

• active notification (push messages) about dangers for up to eight locations: seven locations besides the current location (= "guardian angel")
• postal code-specific warnings for the selected locations with warning texts and color-based classification of the warning level
• continuous, anonymized updating of the location information so that no further input to the location is required manually
• Immediate notification when entering a current danger area
• Feedback function for feedback to the app provider
• Germany-wide danger and disaster warnings
• Reports on missing person searches of the police Hessen
• Warnings related to fraud (eg "False Police Officers") in Hesse
• Cyber ​​security alerts
• Flood and earthquake warnings in Hesse as well as Baden-Wuerttemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate
• Information about product recalls
• Police information and information on selected events and festivals in Hesse
• Prevention information and information on preventive events of the Hessian police

In addition, the app has a geo-referenced emergency call. In an emergency, this allows you to request location-specific help as quickly as possible, no matter where you are.
