About this app

Whether for adult visitors or younger explorers of the UNESCO World Heritage, the Jewish ShUM sites Speyer, Worms and Mainz: the storytelling app offers exciting journeys through places and spaces and different centuries!
In the Middle Ages, the Jewish communities in Speyer, Worms and Mainz formed an association that still shapes Judaism in Europe and beyond through architecture and eruditeness.

ShUM was the name of the confederation after the first letters of the Hebrew city names:
(Sh) ShPIRA / Speyer
(U) Warmaisa / Worms
(M) Magenza / Mainz

The app offers a tour of the Judenhof in Speyer, the old Jewish cemetery “Heiliger Sand” in Worms as well as the synagogue district in Worms and centuries of Jewish life in Mainz.
With this app, you can discover the monuments and cemeteries inscribed as World Heritage sites in a completely new way. Follow fascinating stories while learning about ShUM, the architecture of synagogues, women’s shuln and ritual baths - and why Jewish cemeteries are “places of eternity.”

Immerse yourself in the history and present of ShUM sites in Speyer, Worms and Mainz!
