An apiary is not a desk.

Gloves on, hive tool in one hand, the colony open in front of you. That is exactly when an app should stay out of the way. Beehives saves everything on the device first, so you can keep working where there is no signal. As soon as there is a connection again, the app syncs with the server by itself.


IBEE: SPEAK INSTEAD OF TYPING

At an open colony you have no hand free for the phone. So just say what you see: gentle colony, six combs of brood, stores are fine. iBee listens, writes it down, picks out the individual values and puts them into the fields of your beehive card. You see every value and can change it before the card is saved.

You can ask iBee questions too, right in the middle of the work. Whatever it suggests you either accept or discard, nothing is saved behind your back. And which of your data it may see at all is your decision, area by area, made up front.

iBee needs a connection, everything else works without one.


THE INSPECTION

Comb by comb, box by box, both sides. You tap what you see: worker brood, drone brood, honey, pollen, foundation, queen cells. At the end it tells you how much brood area the colony has, in square centimetres, along with the estimated number of brood cells and from which comb to which comb the brood nest runs.


WHAT HAPPENS AT THE COLONY

Beehive card, feeding, treatment, harvest, disease, rating. Each one separate, each with its own form. Which fields appear on the beehive card is up to you: you put them together at webapp.iBeekeeper.de, and the app shows exactly those.

Enter a treatment and the app works out when the withdrawal period ends, then tells you at the colony how many days are left. Ratings collect at the colony, with an average across all of them.


THE WHOLE APIARY IN ONE GO

Fed forty colonies and now you type forty entries? No need. Feedings, treatments and beehive cards can be created for every colony at an apiary in a single step. Take individual ones back out if you like.


NOTE IT DOWN HOWEVER SUITS YOU

Speak your note into the phone. It gets written down and you can read it as text later. Photograph the comb you are puzzling over. Attach a task to one colony or to the whole apiary, with templates for the jobs that come round every year.

Apiaries with weather from our own weather service. Migrations with a full history, so you know where a colony stood and when. APITag with QR code and NFC. The last reading reported by your hive scale, right at the colony.On a tablet a proper layout with two columns, not a blown-up phone.


YOUR DATA

What you enter in the app is in the web application at webapp.iBeekeeper.de as well, and the other way round. Where your bees actually stand stays between us: iBeekeeper never shows locations publicly, and if a photo of yours does become public, in the beekeeping knowledge base for example, the capture location and device details are stripped from the file first.


You need an iBeekeeper account to use the app. There is a free period to try it out, after which up to five colonies stay free for good.
