About this app

Where does this news come from?

MedalGuard shows news, its sources and observations from other readers. You decide how to interpret an article. This is not a fact checker.

PLEASE NOTE: THE APP IS IN GERMAN

The interface and news selection are German-language. There is no English interface at present.

NEWS AND ORIGIN

The selection covers 23 newsrooms across 28 feeds. You can filter by category or turn sources on and off. Multiple feeds from the same provider are grouped for the newsroom count. Availability and freshness depend on each provider.

When loading a feed, MedalGuard checks its HTTPS connection and compares its domain with the article address. An origin badge shows that match. This does not verify the content or every individual author. Opening the original article may lead to advertising, a paywall and the publisher's own privacy rules.

You can share a link from another app to MedalGuard. That check only examines the address on your device. It does not visit the page, so the destination, redirects and content have not been checked.

WHAT THE MEDALS MEAN

GOLD: a public-service source with a civil-society oversight body.
SILVER: a source for which we have classified a German Press Council complaint route.
BRONZE: other complaint routes, or routes we have not yet documented in those categories.
MAGNIFYING GLASS: a source not yet classified.

This is our documented understanding, not a quality seal or a guarantee that a complaint will succeed. Tap a medal for the reason, supporting link and correction contact. No medal says whether a report is true.

OBSERVATIONS, NOT A VOTE ON TRUTH

Readers can choose "Passt für mich" or a specific concern such as a missing source. These are personal observations, not proof. The coverage indicator only counts similar topics among loaded sources; it does not verify a story.

THREE AREAS

Nachrichten: news and source filters.
Vorsicht: items you want to revisit.
Profil: points, medals and local keyword tracking. Seven ranks from Neuling to Boss ∞ (1,400 points). Tap or hold a rank for details. +3 for an observation, with one extra +3 bonus for a specific critical reason, subject to a daily limit. Points do not give your vote extra weight.

YOUR DATA

You do not need to create a personal account. Firebase automatically creates a pseudonymous identifier for swarm voting; votes and technical connection data are processed online. Profile progress and lists are encrypted locally. Your optional photo is stored in private app storage.

A local reset does not automatically delete earlier cloud submissions or votes already sent. It does not cancel a Google Play subscription. Privacy details and deletion-request contact: https://www.medalguard.com/datenschutz
