About this app

"Orte Erinnern" is an application from the National Socialist Documentation Center in the state capital of Munich. Based on the question of how National Socialism shaped and penetrated Munich, the application offers background information on a selection of 120 places in and around Munich that are connected to the National Socialist past:

- Places of rise and self-portrayal of the NSDAP
- Places where National Socialism was intertwined with administration, business and industry
- Places of penetration into society
- Places of disenfranchisement and persecution
- Places of resistance against National Socialism

Background texts, images, biographies, audio and video material inform you about which events, functions and people were linked to certain buildings and places and how these places have changed in the course of history. All traces and information should stimulate a critical examination of the history of National Socialism.

- Offline and online map with 120 locations (POIs = Points of Interest)
- GPS function with alert
- Sorting and filter options (topics, locations)
- Keyword search and display of the results on the map
- Augmented Reality: alternative navigation, view of POIs in the camera module
- Numerous media content optionally available online or offline (120 background texts on the POIs, over 400 images, 20 audios, 9 videos and around 50 biographies)

The zoomable, detailed map material makes the media content in Munich and the surrounding area accessible. The overview map provides quick access to the regions with available content.
The central part of the application are the objects in downtown Munich. These objects and the associated map material are integrated in the application and can therefore be used offline. Additional offline maps and content can be reloaded via the settings. Alternatively, the online maps of OpenStreetMap can be used via an active internet connection. The integrated GPS function with alert (= ringing tone) makes it easier to navigate and find POIs on site.

In the topic view, the available POIs are broken down by topic. The POIs can be displayed in a list using the location view. The search offers the option of filtering the available media content and displaying the results on the map.

The application offers four suggested routes through downtown Munich. These approx. One to two hour tours lead to important places in the history of National Socialism in Munich. The selected route is automatically displayed on the map. The POIs along the route are marked. If GPS is activated, the current location is shown on the map.

In the camera module, content is displayed in the environment (depending on the orientation of the camera).
