Globe Viewer enables a high quality representation of the surface of our blue planet. This is made possible by images and elevation data from NASA. There are various map displays: the usual land view with water and a display without water on which the underwater ridges can be seen. Another representation is based on the digital height model ASTER3 from NASA / METI.
Overview of the existing globes:
- Land view without political borders
- Land view with political borders
- Land and sea as a topological map
- ASTER3: high-resolution elevation model of the earth
All maps can be loaded onto the device and are then also available offline. Cities are shown on the map and can be displayed by the user at will. You can import your own markings with your data into the app via text input or directly via a text file and display them immediately.
We have installed a new 3D map mode for viewing the SRTM (NASA) / ASTER elevation data (METI & NASA). High-resolution 3D maps for the entire planet have now been published from this data. These 3D maps can be changed interactively. For example, the height is multiplied so that even smaller height differences in flat areas can be better represented. The lighting can also be changed by the user to get the best view of the desired map.
In-app purchases are offered to display the high-resolution 3D maps. Try the free demos for all users: Mountains of Ecuador, the "Eye of Africa", Sicily with the volcano Etna or the Grand Canyon, Bangladesh and an example from Indonesia: Bali.
You can also export high-resolution screenshots for free use directly from the app. Use the tutorial to quickly find your way around.
We hope you enjoy using the GlobeViewer!
