About this app

Shafaq calculates prayer times directly on your device, based on the celestial signs described in the Quran and Sunnah. It doesn't query any database or load pre-defined times. Every number can be traced back to the legal opinion from which it originates, and every intermediate value in the calculation is visible.

Your coordinates never leave your device, and even location tracking works offline. There's no account, no registration, no advertising, and no subscription. The app is free. Those who use it are encouraged to offer a supplication.

In Germany, the sun often doesn't reach the twilight angle for weeks during the summer. In such cases, Shafaq doesn't display a number, but rather the lowest sun position reached and by how many degrees the target altitude was missed. Alternative rules can be enabled, but are disabled by default and always indicated as a substitute value in the results.

``` Your Legal Opinion, Your Numbers

Adjustable settings include the twilight angle for Fajr and Isha, the shadow factor for Asr, an offset for Dhuhr, altitude correction, and the definition of night. Each time period is explained by the legal opinion behind its value. Six explanatory pages provide detailed references.

Widget and Reminders

A widget for the home screen displays the six times of day and highlights the current one. When resized, it shows the current Waqt (prayer time) and the remaining time. Reminders can be set individually for each prayer, silently and without sound.

Qibla

The direction to the Kaaba is represented by a rose with a pin, along with the bearing in degrees and the distance as a great circle. With a compass, the rose rotates; without a compass, it points north.
