This program gives you the opportunity to practice for the theoretical part of the Sporthochseeschifferschein.
With “SHS Sporthochseeschifferschein” you can study for the exam anywhere on your smartphone or tablet. It is the interactive addition to a good textbook for on the go. To learn effectively, you can check your answers immediately and rate the questions so you can practice later. You will be supported in learning by the Leitner learning system that helps you to focus on the difficult questions for you.
The theory test consists of the following 4 parts:
- Navigation + examination on the sextant (150min / 60 max.points + approx. 10min orally)
- Shipping law (45min / 40 max.points)
- Meteorology (45min / 20 max.points)
- Handling of yachts (approx. 15min orally)
In each part of the examination, at least 65% of the maximum possible points must be achieved in order to pass. If you achieve between 55% and 64% of the maximum possible points, an oral re-examination takes place. If less than 55% of the achievable points are reached, the part of the examination is not passed. If the test on the sextant is not passed, the entire navigation test is not passed. Failed parts of the exam can be made up for individually.
In contrast to other exams, there is no official catalog of questions to use for orientation. The questions in this app cover the additional topics that are relevant compared to the Sportseeschifferschein, were created as part of an exam preparation and led to success. This means that anyone who can claim that they know an answer to a large number of the questions in this app and can also remember the content of the Sportseeschifferschein examination should pass the question part of the examination parts well. In the area of navigation, in addition to the questions, there is also a very comprehensive navigation task to be solved, which the app unfortunately cannot prepare for.
Since September 1st, 2015, programmable and programmed pocket calculators may no longer be used during the exam.
The other requirements for the Sporthochseeschifferschein are:
- Sportseeschifferschein (SSS)
- Age: at least 18 years
- Proof that after acquiring the SSS at least 1000 nm were covered on yachts with the respective type of propulsion as a security guard or his deputy.
