The network keeps dropping out on the train. Not because it's too slow, but because it disappears completely for seconds at a time—at higher speeds, your phone switches cell towers every few minutes.
Tunnel Radio uses Wi-Fi and mobile data SIMULTANEOUSLY instead of switching between them. If one network fails, the other takes over—no waiting, no interruption.
Three classes, just like on a train:
• STANDING (free): Every data packet travels on whichever network has the best signal. Chatting always works, although a page might freeze briefly when switching networks.
• 2ND CLASS: Speed. Data packets are distributed across both networks—streams and pages load at the speed of both networks, and important data is routed through both.
• 1ST CLASS: Reliability. Every data packet travels on both networks simultaneously—video calls stay connected even if one network drops out.
The track diagram shows you live what each network is currently capable of: ping, speed, dropouts, packet loss—represented by a miniature railway line with a locomotive and carriages.
• STANDING CLASS: Speed. Every data packet travels on both networks simultaneously—the video call remains stable even if one network fails. What you should know: Tunnelfunk establishes a VPN connection so that traffic can route through both networks. In 2nd and 1st class, it runs through our server in Germany; in standing room, it remains on your device. 1st class uses twice the data volume – that's the price for stability.
Introductory phase: All three classes are free at launch, without an account or registration. A subscription for 1st and 2nd class will follow in a later version; the app will notify you in good time.
New in version 1.1: Connect your laptop via cable – connect your Mac via USB, and the Tunnelfunk train companion app (download at tunnelfunk.de) will travel with you. A counter displays "Dead zones overcome · Connections saved." Messages from the operator are displayed directly in the app.
Operator: Renneberg Media UG (limited liability), Wandlitz.
Use Wi-Fi and mobile network simultaneously – stable network on the train.
