About this app

MetarTaf Decoder is a tool built for pilots and aviation staff that turns raw METAR and TAF aerodrome reports into a clear, complete description in your language within seconds.

The app fetches current data straight from the Aviation Weather Center (the official NOAA source) and shows it in two forms at once: the original text of the report and its full decode — no need to translate the abbreviations by hand.

MAIN FEATURES

• Airport search by ICAO code, IATA code or name — the database covers about 19,500 airports worldwide, including smaller general-aviation airfields
• Nearest airport found automatically from your GPS position — one tap instead of typing a code
• Visual runway compass with wind direction and speed — shows which threshold is best into wind, distinguishing paved and grass surfaces
• Visual reading of cloud cover — a chart of cloud layers (FEW/SCT/BKN/OVC/VV) on a cloud-base axis
• The airport's local time shown next to UTC, the time zone all reports are issued in
• For airports without their own weather station the app automatically shows data from the nearest METAR-reporting airport, with the distance clearly marked
• A clear warning when the available report is outdated and nothing newer is broadcast nearby — no stale data presented as current
• Full METAR decode: wind, visibility (including CAVOK), weather phenomena, cloud cover (CB/TCU, VV), temperature, dew point, QNH pressure, TREND forecast, RVR and runway surface state
• Full TAF decode: validity periods and FM/TEMPO/BECMG/PROB/INTER change groups, each decoded separately, plus maximum and minimum temperatures and wind shear
• Colour-coded flight category — VFR, MVFR, IFR, LIFR — computed automatically from visibility and cloud base
• Airport map with weather from nearby stations — station markers coloured by flight category, wind, gusts, visibility, cloud base, dew point spread or QNH pressure, with wind arrows and a legend
• Offline mode: the last fetched reports and runway data are stored on the device, and an indicator in the header always shows the connection state
• Interface and decode available in 24 European Union languages: Polish, English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, Swedish, Czech, Romanian, Hungarian, Bulgarian, Croatian, Danish, Greek, Slovak, Slovenian, Estonian, Finnish, Irish, Latvian, Lithuanian and Maltese, plus Japanese
• Appearance switch: system, light or dark theme, with a quick toggle in the header
• Tabs that keep several airports open at once so you can switch between them quickly
• Favourite airports and a history of recent searches, stored on the device
• Automatic data refresh at a configurable interval, with a report-age indicator
• Unit switching: knots / km/h / m/s, hPa / inHg, metres / feet, °C / °F, metres / km / statute miles
• A settings panel for choosing which decode sections are visible
• One-button sharing — the link points to decodermetartaf.com, and on a phone with the app installed it opens right back in the app

The app requires no account and no sign-in, contains no ads, and stores all settings locally on the device.

MetarTaf Decoder works both for flight planning and for a quick check of the weather en route — just enter the airport code.

What’s new

Fixes:
- The app reconnects on its own after a brief loss of connection; before, the “Offline” badge stayed until the app was restarted.
- After a BECMG group, the hourly TAF table keeps the wind, visibility and clouds that the group does not change.
- A station with no visibility reading is no longer marked VFR.
- Minor fixes to search and settings.
