About this app

Hear a bird or frog and wonder what it is? Record a few seconds with WildEcho and get ranked species matches with confidence scores, powered by Google's open Perch 2.0 bioacoustics model covering over 14,000 species.

HOW IT WORKS
1. Tap Record and capture a few seconds of the call
2. WildEcho sends the clip to its identification server
3. See the best match plus other candidates, each with a confidence score

FREE, PRIVATE, NO ACCOUNT
No sign-up, no ads, no tracking. Clips go over HTTPS to the free public WildEcho server, which uses them only to answer your request and does not store them.

RUN YOUR OWN SERVER (OPTIONAL)
Prefer full control? The backend, wildecho-api, is open source. Deploy it on your own machine or cloud and point the app at it in Settings.

ACCURACY AND LIMITATIONS
Perch 2.0's training data is heavily bird-weighted: about 70% of its species classes are birds, and its coverage of insects, frogs, and mammals is much thinner. There is no bat coverage at all, because bat echolocation is largely ultrasonic and outside what this model can hear. Treat non-bird results as leads to verify, not identifications. Full details are on the app's About screen.

OPEN SOURCE
Both the app and the backend are MIT licensed and open source. Perch 2.0 itself is Apache-2.0, copyright Google LLC. This app is not affiliated with or endorsed by Google.
