Herald is the companion app for Hermes Agent — the open-source AI agent you run on your own computer. Connect once and every bot on your Hermes shows up as a chat on your phone, streaming replies in real time and asking for your approval before it runs anything that needs it.
Nothing goes through a Herald server. Your phone talks straight to your computer over your own network or your Tailscale tailnet, and your Hermes talks to whatever models you configured there. Herald never contacts a model provider and collects no analytics.
YOUR BOTS, AS CHATS
• Every Hermes profile is a bot with its own ongoing conversation.
• Streaming replies, live tool activity, and approve/deny prompts.
• Create a new bot with its own personality from your phone; switch which model a bot thinks with.
• A dot on each avatar shows who is awake, mid-turn, or unreachable.
GROUP CHATS AND MENTIONS
• Seat two or more bots in a room where they talk to you and to each other, taking turns.
• Type @ to tag another bot by name; the bot you are chatting with is told who you mean.
• Rooms are shared with the Hermes desktop app.
SEVERAL COMPUTERS, ONE ROSTER
• Save more than one Hermes connection — a home Mac, a VPS, a Mini on Tailscale — and every machine's bots show up together, each chatting with its own backend.
PICK UP ANY SESSION
• Your bots also talk on Telegram, in the terminal and on the desktop. Open a bot's Sessions list and resume any of those conversations from your phone.
VOICE
• Voice notes: tap the mic, talk, send. Your own Hermes transcribes the clip with the speech-to-text provider you configured, and the bot receives only the words.
• Dictation into the composer, and an optional "Hey Herald" wake word.
MADE FOR READING CODE
• Every code block has a one-tap Copy button. HTML and SVG blocks add Preview.
• Long-press any message for Copy or Select text.
• White on black by default; Light or follow-the-system in Settings.
PUSH THAT RESPECTS YOU
• Register once and the hermes-bot-push plugin on your computer sends a banner when a bot finishes or needs approval. Only the bot's name travels through the push service; the conversation stays on your machines.
SETUP IN MINUTES
• Run `npx herald-setup` on the computer that has Hermes. It configures a password, starts hermes serve, uses Tailscale when it is installed, and prints a QR code. Scan it and you are connected.
Herald requires a computer running Hermes Agent (github.com/NousResearch/Hermes-Agent). It is an independent, unofficial app made by @iamlukethedev and is not made, endorsed, or supported by Nous Research.
