What's hiding in your files?

Photos typically store more than the picture itself: the time it was taken, the camera model, often the GPS coordinates of where it was shot. Several images together can add up to a movement profile—home address, commute, vacation dates. PDFs and office files carry author names and edit history, images from AI generators often the prompt used to create them, and links carry tracking parameters.

This data usually travels along when you share a file. Some platforms strip metadata on upload, but many don't—sent via messenger, email, or a cloud folder, the file typically leaves your device unchanged. Recipients can read this data with freely available tools.

Detag detects and removes supported sensitive metadata before you share a file. This includes EXIF information, GPS coordinates, device and authorship details, and detected AI prompt fields. Known C2PA and provenance markers are detected heuristically; Detag does not validate signatures or prove who created a file.

Motion photos can contain more than the image you see. During cleaning, Detag removes attached videos as well as supported embedded secondary images and depth maps.

Proof, not promises

The metadata inspector shows what a file contains before cleaning. Detag then re-scans every output and shows what was actually removed. Local privacy statistics make successful cleanups easy to review.
