About this game

Wordlike is a word-based, roguelike deckbuilder! Make words, tune your bag of letters, and collect powerful items to beat challenging levels.

It combines the strategy and replayability of roguelike deckbuilders with the challenge and nostalgia of classic word games. If you've played Balatro, it's like Balatro with words.

Wordlike is made up of four boards, each with several levels—your goal is to beat these levels by making words. As the level target scores climb, you'll need to pick up Knick Knacks that boost your score and direct your strategy.

You'll also encounter unique, game-changing events that bolster your run, forcing you to evaluate tradeoffs, swap items, and more.

Highlights
• Endlessly Replayable: Every board is procedurally generated, so you'll constantly encounter new items, events, and bosses!
• Unique Knick Knacks: Pick up Knick Knacks at the shop between levels. Create word-based synergies based on parts of speech, letters, and more.
• Powerful Tile Enhancements: Strengthen your bag of letters with fun effects that boost their Base Points and Multipliers
• Challenging bosses: Face a variety of bosses that force you to make words without certain letters, of a certain length, or ones you've never made before.
• Unfiltered dictionary: Make words you can't say at grandma's house. Slang and abbreviations are fair game!
• Offline Play: Play the entire game on the go, no internet connection necessary.

I'm enjoying it quite a bit! A lot of the mechanics are 1:1 analogues to Balatro (items that gradually gain mult throughout your run, etc) and it works super well. There seems to be a bigger emphasis on single-use consumables which I think is fun and keeps you mixing things up. My one critique is that the game is kind of lacking in aesthetic and sound design. It feels sterile, almost like I'm playing the NYT Mini crossword. I wish it sounded & looked a little more tactile!

Thanks for the thoughtful review here. I released an update that actually tries to address a few of these including a big haptics inclusion. I hope you'll like it and this it helps at least take a step in the direction you were hoping for it to feel like

Game looks good but there is a bug in the tutorial where you are told to choose the pool balls then you are supposed to then select the book icon which should be at the top of the screen but the case where the pool balls should be shown goes off the top of the screen and all the icons, including the one you should select are now displayed off screen where you can't get to them, do you can't complete the tutorial. I'm using a Samsung galaxy S24 Ultra which isn't an unusual device.

I know this game is cool, unfortunately it's not running on my phone. The opening screen pops up, but when I try to start the game everything goes blank. I'm on the new Pixel 10 Pro. I will give a better score when I can play it, I know I'll like it. UPDATE: I am able to play the game on my Fold 7, the game is as fun as I thought it would be. 5 stars. Still not able to play on the Pixel 10 Pro though. Maybe it's a big with the Pixels?

Thanks for the review! But very weird that it's not working on your Pixel! I made a bunch of optimizations to reduce the app size. If you're still having issues, could you email me at harish@roadtrip.dev?
