EAFCON is an Android utility for direct, manual control of compatible electronic telescope focusers through a USB serial connection.
Designed for astronomy and astrophotography setups, EAFCON provides clear device selection, position feedback, movement controls, and locally stored presets without requiring an account, advertising, or a developer-operated cloud service.
Key features
• Manual discovery and selection of USB serial devices
• Current position, movement state, temperature, and device-reported maximum display
• Absolute positioning and fixed or custom relative movement
• User-defined software safety maximum
• Named position presets
• JSON import and export for portable preset backup
• Configurable baud rate, data bits, stop bits, parity, flow control, and timeout
• Light, dark, and red night-vision themes
• English and Korean interface
• Demo mode for exploring the interface without connected hardware
Hardware and compatibility
Physical focuser control requires:
• Android 8.0 or later
• USB Host support
• A suitable USB OTG adapter or powered hub
• A compatible USB serial electronic focuser
EAFCON has been physically tested with a Gemini Focuser using a CH340/CH34x USB serial adapter at 9600 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, and 1 stop bit.
The command set is intended for MyFocuserPro2-compatible focusers. Compatibility with other devices is not guaranteed and may depend on the device firmware, USB serial adapter, and control protocol.
USB scanning only lists compatible serial devices and available device information. It does not automatically open ports, claim devices, reset hardware, or send commands. A connection is made only after the user selects a device and grants Android USB permission.
Privacy
EAFCON does not include advertising, analytics, telemetry, user accounts, or developer-operated network services. App settings and presets are stored locally on the Android device. Connected-device information is used only to identify and operate the selected USB peripheral.
Safety
Set a conservative software safety maximum before moving the focuser. Software controls, including STOP, must not be treated as an emergency stop. Keep the focuser travel path clear and remain able to disconnect power if the hardware behaves unexpectedly.
