About this app

SysOp is a VNC client for Android built for people who administer machines,
not just glance at them. It speaks RFB 3.8 (RFC 6143) and supports the
TightVNC extensions, including file transfer.

CONNECTIONS
• TightVNC security and standard VNC password authentication, negotiated
automatically; servers offering only RFB 3.3 still work
• Saved connections with name, host, port and encoding — swipe to edit,
delete, view or connect
• Export and import the whole list as JSON

ENCODINGS
Tight, ZRLE, Hextile, CopyRect and Raw. Tight is offered first because it
normally costs the least bandwidth, while Raw and CopyRect stay available as
fallbacks every server understands. A connection can pin one encoding instead
of letting the server choose.

FILE TRANSFER
Browse the remote machine's folders and move files in either direction with
progress reporting, using the TightVNC 2.x file transfer extension. Servers
without the extension say so up front instead of failing halfway through.

INPUT
• Tap to left-click, long-press to right-click; dragging pans your view rather
than dragging on the remote machine
• With a mouse attached: hover, middle and right buttons, and the scroll wheel
• On-screen keyboard drawn by the app — docked, where the desktop slides up so
nothing is covered, or floating as a window you can park anywhere. English
and Russian layouts, one-shot Ctrl and Alt, adjustable opacity, key size and
width
• Physical keyboards — cover, Bluetooth or USB — forwarded as X11 keysyms with
Ctrl and Alt shortcuts intact. Held keys are released the moment the session
loses focus, so a modifier cannot get stuck down

DISPLAY
Pinch or use the on-screen buttons to zoom up to 8x, with fit-to-screen as the
minimum so the desktop never shrinks away into a corner. Rotating the device
re-fits it to the new shape.

VIEW-ONLY MODE
Watch a machine without touching it: zoom and pan still work while every path
that would send a pointer, key or clipboard event is closed off. It can be
switched on and off during a live session.

SECURITY
Passwords live in Android Keystore-backed storage — never in the connection
list, never in an export. An optional master password covers connections that
have none of their own.

PERFORMANCE
Networking and frame decoding run in a background isolate, so protocol work
never stalls the interface.

Also: bidirectional clipboard sync, light and dark themes following the system
setting, and tablet layouts.

A NOTE ON SECURITY
RFB transmits in plain text and its password authentication is DES-based and
weak by modern standards. These are properties of the protocol, not of this
app, and apply to every RFB client. On networks you do not fully trust, tunnel
the connection over a VPN or SSH.

No ads. No accounts. No analytics. Nothing is sent anywhere except the server
you specify.
