Drobnopis reads the ingredients of food directly from the packaging. You point the camera, slowly swipe over the fine print — and the application continuously composes the text and shows what it found in it.
DOES NOT NEED A BARCODE
Other Czech e-commerce applications look for a product in a database. If it is not there — and private brands of chains, regional producers, or modified recipes are often not there — you will not get anything. Drobnopis reads the text on the packaging, so it works on any product.
BARCODE AS A BONUS
If there is a readable barcode on the packaging, Drobnopis will ask the public Open Food Facts database and immediately fill in the name and image of the product. If the product and ingredients are there, you will see an estimate even before you finish reading the packaging — but separately, so that you can see what the application read itself and what it took over.
WHAT WILL YOU FIND IN THE TEXT
• E-marks under the code (E621) and under the Czech name (“monosodium glutamate”)
• Fourteen legal groups of allergens according to Regulation (EU) No. 1169/2011 — and it looks for their actual manifestations, not just the names of the groups: whey, casein, and lactose also belong to milk
• The sentence “may contain traces” separately from the composition
• Nutritional information from the table on the packaging, next to the values from Open Food Facts
• Substances that you write down in My List yourself — a specific E-mark, an entire group of allergens, or your own text
CZECH, NOT TRANSLATION
The manufacturer writes “citric acids,” not “citric acid,” and the reflection on the foil eats away at the hooks. The small print takes into account inflection, missing diacritics, and typical reading mistakes. This is exactly where foreign applications on Czech labels fail.
MY SHEET HAS PRIORITY
When something from your list is found, the screen turns red and the phone vibrates. In the store, you look at the packaging, not the display.
MY PRODUCTS
You name the saved product, mark it “buy” or “don’t buy” and add a note — why, for whom. Next time, just search the shelf by name or barcode. Photos of the composition will remain with the product so that you can verify what the application read. The entire list can be saved as a backup and loaded on another phone.
CATALOGUE OF ECHEKS
All 343 additives from the EU list, by code, name or functional class. The hundred most common ones have their own description: what the substance is, what it does in food and what it is found in.
WORKS WITHOUT SIGNAL
Text recognition runs entirely on the phone and the dictionary is part of the application. On the shelf without signal, it works the same as at home.
IT DOESN'T SAY WHAT IS GOOD AND WHAT IS BAD
For each substance, it shows what the regulations say about it — and where it comes from. Where there is no support for the claim, it says that it is not. An assessment without justification is an opinion passed off as a finding, and you won't find that here.
WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR
The small print on the crumpled foil is sometimes impossible to read and part of the composition is missed. What the application finds is on the packaging. What it doesn't find may still be there — if you have an allergy, always read the packaging. The small print is a guide, not a check. And it's not health advice: all the substances it finds are permitted in the EU, and what to eat is a question for a doctor.
