About this app

Yantra allows the user to visualize the essential components of Hindu luni-solar calendar. It is an astronomical tool that provides live details of samvatsara (year), Masa (month), paksha (waxing or waning phase of the moon), tithi (day of the moon phase), Naksatra (asterism), rashi (zodiac - of the sun and the moon), and lagna (the zodiac at a given point of time in the day).

Yantra main screen shows the following from outside to Inside 1) tihi, 2) naksatra 3) Masa 4) Rashi. Innermost names the Surya Rashi, and the current naksatra. The moon phase (centre) changes with the tithi and paksha. And touching it will show lunar Rashi. Tithi ring is divided into Krishna and Shukla paksha (right and left).Touch any segment of any circle to know what it means. Esp. Masa and naksatra. The top shows the samvatsara.

Below the yantra, there is a lotus / flower icon: it lights up on a set of prebuilt special days and festivals. In v2.0 (uploaded already for testers - don't know if you got it), the flower is clickable. And it opens a list of the special days / festivals and user defined special days in a separate page. Then you can click any of those days to check naksatra/ tithi / Rashi etc.

The Gregorian date below this allows you to set any date - future or past and check the Rashi / tithi / naksatram on those days.Last thing to explore - is the settings button: bottom left. A gear symbol. Click on it and you can see things there. The locale settings isn't perfect yet. But the rest of the things work.

One feature in settings - the user can specify days that are important to them. For eg: birthdays. By specifying the month and the naksatra. Or tithi .. and save them. Then the lotus lights up on those days too..

What’s new

Yantra is a Hindu Luni solar calendar. It uses Swiss Ephemeris data tables to calculate astronomical events and cross reference it with Hindu calendar events. It uses user locale (within their devices) to set the calendar to the correct latitude / longitude. It doesn't store / share any user data with any server. There is no registration required nor accounts. Enjoy.
