Located on the left bank of the river Tua, the village of Vilarinho das Azenhas acquired its name because there are several watermills. In the past, the parish had a strong tendency for artisanal work and held several oil mills and some watermills located on the Tua River. Vilarinho das Azenhas is a remote village, with a varied architectural heritage, namely an acropolis in the center of the village, the old castle and the remains of a wall. It also presents a demarcated religious estate, highlighting the presence of the Church of Santa Justa and the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios.
