The player takes on the role of the president of a quantum computer company, which must be managed to make its way in the quantum technology market, competing against the lobby of classical computer companies and other established companies in the sector.
To complete the orders from different clients, quantum algorithms will be used, focusing on Grover's algorithm, both for its historical and academic relevance and for being the most accessible to a non-expert audience. However, other algorithms such as Bernstein-Vazirani or Deutsch-Josza will be considered if there is enough time.
Quantum Tycoon is an application developed by Institute of Cosmos Sciences of the University of Barcelona, within the framework of the UB mobility project
The game will feature a progression system, starting with only a small computer, which can be improved and expanded with the money earned, allowing the purchase of more circuits and input qubits to make better and larger computers. Scientists and operators can also be hired to unlock new algorithms or develop technological improvements to increase the performance of the devices. The goal of the game is to fulfill the different orders until becoming the leading company in the market.
Additionally, it will have a strong focus on resource management, making it especially important for the player to strategically choose where to invest their funds, whether in machinery improvement, research, hiring personnel, or other purposes, such as advertising their services.
