About this app
Takebase is where a band works on a song together. Record it, listen to it, mark the bits that need work, and stack the next take on top.
An idea usually starts as a phone recording. In Takebase it lands on the song it belongs to instead of at the bottom of a chat thread, and every new version goes on as the next take.
RECORD
Record straight into the app, from an album or from the song you are adding to. Count yourself in at 1, 3 or 5, watch the waveform as you play, tap it to pause. The check keeps it, the bin throws it away, and nothing uploads until you keep it.
Already recorded somewhere else? Share it in from Voice Memos, from Files, or from anywhere with a share sheet. m4a, mp3, wav and aiff all work.
LISTEN AND COMMENT
Play a take on a waveform you can scrub. Double tap the timeline to leave a comment at 1:23, and everyone else sees it pinned there. Reply to one, or tick it off when it is done.
A comment belongs to the take it was left on, so it never slides onto a new mix of a different length and points at the wrong bar.
When a comment or a new take lands, the band gets a notification and a tap opens the song. Mute an album you would rather not hear from.
PRACTISE
Press and hold the waveform and drag to loop a section. Move the handles while the music plays; the loop turns round without a gap or a click. Drag the waveform of a playing take and the sound follows your finger, so you can find the bar you meant by ear.
TAKES
Takes stack newest first, each carrying the date the recording was actually made. Switch between them in the player and compare without leaving the song. Rename a take, choose the one the song plays, or move it to another song or out into a song of its own.
YOUR LIBRARY
Albums hold songs. Songs hold takes. No folder tree to keep tidy, no session layer to click through. Grid or list, dragged into the order you want, searchable, and every row says how many takes it has and how long they run.
WORKING TOGETHER
A share link opens the album in Takebase for anyone who has the app, and offers the app to anyone who does not. Tapping it joins that person to the album. No roles to hand out: everybody in an album can add takes, leave comments, and see who else is in it. A link lasts a day and can carry a password.
Adding people is always free. The limit is on audio, never on people.
LISTENING
A take is kept on your device after the first play, so a song keeps playing where the signal does not. Playback carries on from the lock screen and over AirPlay.
Whatever you send is converted to 192 kbps AAC, and that copy is what Takebase keeps and streams.
WHAT IT COSTS
Free up to 30 minutes of stored audio. Takebase Pro raises that to 15 hours, and deleting a take gives its minutes straight back. Going over the free limit pauses uploading and playback until you make room or subscribe. Nothing is deleted.
PRIVACY
No ads. No tracking across other apps or websites. Nothing sold to anybody. Your recordings are private to the album they sit in and the links you choose to send.
SUBSCRIPTION
Takebase Pro Monthly: EUR 9.99 per month
Takebase Pro Yearly: EUR 69.99 per year
Those are the euro-zone prices and they vary by region; the price for your account is shown in the app before you confirm. Where a free trial is offered, the app shows its length and the price that follows it, payment is taken at the end of the trial, and a trial is offered once per Apple ID.
Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. A subscription renews automatically unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the current period ends, and your account is charged for the renewal within 24 hours of that. Manage or cancel a subscription in your Apple Account settings.
