About this app

A new way of looking at our monumental heritage, introducing us to mathematics through history and art. We examine each monument to discover construction patterns, decorative patterns, and symbols consistent with the era in which they were erected.

Walks Mathematics is a dissemination project that aims to bring mathematics closer to society in an innovative way. It is inspired by the book "Mathematical Walks through Granada" (Editorial UGR 2017), whose coordinator is Alvaro Martínez Sevilla. The mathematician, a researcher at the DASCI - Andalusian Interuniversity Institute in Data Science and Computational Intelligence, is the scientific director of this Disclosure proposal coordinated by Fundación Discover.

It is an interdisciplinary project in which more than twenty scientists from different areas of knowledge (mathematics, art, computing), disseminators, communicators and educators participate, which uses technology and the most current dissemination techniques to establish a dialogue between art. and science, between scientists and citizens, between science and tourism.

Walks Mathematics has been developed in two phases, it began with Walks Mathematics through Granada (2018), available on this website and is currently continuing with the Paseo Matemático Al-Ándalus (in design). Both phases have received funding from the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) from the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, and the Ministry of Economy, Knowledge, Business and the University of the Junta de Andalucía.

In the new Al-Ándalus Mathematical Walk, we propose to visit the monumental center of the provinces of Granada, Córdoba and Seville in a virtual and / or face-to-face way to enjoy a different vision of their heritage, integrating science, art and history, with the help of technological tools (Geogrebra, 3D printing, immersive reality or augmented reality)
