About this app

Patres is a reader of the writings of the Church Fathers and Christian classics. Here you'll find the Apostolic Fathers (Didache, Letter to Diognetus, letters of Clement of Rome, Ignatius of Antioch, and Polycarp), Justin's First Apology, works by Origen, Tertullian, Cyprian, Athanasius, Ambrose, and Augustine, the sermons of Leo the Great, and the teachings of Columbanus. All on your phone, even without internet.

NEW TRANSLATIONS
60 of the 64 texts are new translations from Greek and Latin, prepared for Patres by Claude (Opus), Anthropic's artificial intelligence model. Each text includes a translator's introduction, footnotes, and a translation reference. These translations have not yet been read by a specialist, so consider them a reading aid, not a scholarly edition.

The Church reads many of these works in excerpts in the Office of Readings. You can read them from start to finish here.

The remaining four texts come from Wikisource and are in the public domain: three books of St. Augustine's Confessions, The Thoughts of St. John Chrysostom, Bogurodzica, and two of Piotr Skarga's eight Sejm Sermons. Incomplete texts are marked in the library. IN THE APP
