About this app

Show a message across a room or over a crowd. Type it, press Start, and big neon letters scroll across the whole screen like an LED banner.

Hold the phone up at a concert, a wedding, a match or in an airport arrivals hall. The scrolling text runs along the long edge of the screen, which leaves room for tall letters, and it keeps going until you tap to stop.

Speed is set in characters per second, from 2 to 30, and the app shows how long one full pass of your message takes. Before you start, you already know whether a long name will crawl past or fly by.

Pick one of six text sizes and one of seven colours with a neon glow: pink, green, cyan, amber, white, violet or a moving rainbow. The text scrolls to the left, like a classic marquee, or to the right.

While the sign runs, the screen stays on at full brightness. When you stop it, your usual brightness comes back.

Lock touches before you pass the phone to someone else or hold it up in a crowd. After that, neither a stray tap nor the Back button will stop the banner. To exit, hold two fingers on the screen for three seconds.

Your last three messages appear as buttons above Start. Tap one to put it back in the text field.

Good to know. This shows a message on your phone screen, so it will not be as bright as an LED panel. It reads well across a room or in a dark hall, less well in direct sunlight, and it cannot be read from the far side of a stadium. Full brightness drains the battery faster than usual, so charge the phone before a long evening.

The app has no network permission, so it cannot send your messages anywhere. The sign works with no signal, in flight mode too. There are no adverts and nothing to sign up for.

Independent development: one person builds and maintains this app. A letter to [e-mail] is read by that person, not by a support desk.

What’s new

New look: buttons that respond to a press, the chosen option filled with the app's colour, one filled main button, and info and settings as icons in the top bar. The editor and settings use the phone's own font.
