DORIS Android is an illustrated guide to the underwater species of mainland France and overseas territories that can be taken "almost" anywhere.
It provides assistance in identifying and observing marine and freshwater species to help you make the most of your scuba diving or walks on the foreshore.
The application can work online (to minimize disk space) but can also work offline after downloading all the photos of your choice. It can therefore be taken on trips or boats and is functional even without a network connection.
The guide offers several search modes: text, by geographic area, by species, etc. Each species is presented with a detailed information sheet and photos from the DORIS website (http://doris.ffessm.fr) of the French Federation for Underwater Studies and Sports and its Underwater Environment and Biology Commission.
The texts provide direct access to definitions for the most scientific terms.
This mini encyclopedia presents more than 4,200 species and 23,000 photos related to marine life (covering fish, algae, mollusks, crustaceans, nudibranchs, marine mammals, corals, and even some birds).
New files are regularly written by the DORIS community of marine biology enthusiasts. By default, new files posted on the reference website are included with application updates.
While it already fulfills many of its functions, we still have plenty of ideas for improving it. To help us with this task, you can use the bug tracker (https://github.com/doris-ffessm/doris-android/issues).
Like the DORIS website, the application is developed in a collaborative spirit; it is and will remain free.
