Every mass-battle game of this shape puts you behind the guns. Orc Horde puts you in front of them.
You command thousands of orcs pushing into a static, heavily-armed emplacement — a gun line of cannons, walls and garrisoned defenders — and you break it open. You do not place units. You do not issue orders. The horde arrives on its own and walks toward the base, and everything you do is a gesture on a live crowd.
Your mass is your weapon and your liability at once. The emplacement answers concentration with area denial, so "clump up or thin out" is the decision you are making every second. The base is not passive either: its barracks are its economy, pumping defenders out to meet you, so the fight is troop-on-troop at a real front line rather than a siege against inert buildings. Raze a barracks and that stretch of wall goes quiet for good.
