About this app

Christmas is a Christian holiday that celebrates the birth of Jesus on December 25 each year. It is also known as the feast of the nativity, the holy nativity, or the feast of Christ. From the beginning of the 20th century, Christmas began to be celebrated as a holiday that was also celebrated by non-Christians, free of religious motifs, focused around the exchange of gifts. In this secular version of Christmas, the mythological figure Santa Claus plays a central role.

Christmas is celebrated on December 25 each year by the majority of Christians around the world. The celebrations begin with Christmas Eve on December 24 and continue until the end of December 25. Some Eastern Orthodox Churches, such as the Armenian Church, celebrate January 6, which falls on December 25 in the Julian calendar. In some Christian-dominated countries, the Christmas holiday is practically combined with the new year holiday.

Some Orthodox churches celebrate Christmas according to the Julian calendar because Catholic Pope XIII adopted the Gregorian calendar. It was arranged by Gregory. However, some Orthodox churches converted to the Gregorian calendar and started to celebrate on December 25.

Christmas and other similar words used in the meaning of Christmas in some Western countries, especially in English-speaking geography, are formed by the combination of the Greek Khristos (Messiah) and the typical Latin messa (Eucharistic rite). The origin of the word Messa is again the Latin word "missa." In Luke chapter 10 verse 3, Jesus says, "Go away! Here I am sending you like lambs among wolves." and in John chapter 20 verse 21, "As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you." He points this out by giving a command that starts with saying.

It is claimed that Christmas celebrations are a tradition that later joined the purely religious belief. According to these claims, the Pagan winter festivals celebrated since ancient times and the practices in Yule and Saturnalia, the winter festivals of Mithraism spread in Rome, constitute the origin of Christmas. In the Roman Empire, December 25 is the birthday of the sun god was accepted. The people of Rome were largely pagan before Christianity.
